INTERNSHIP PROGRAM SUMMARY:

The DC Housing Finance Agency's Internship Program is designed to attract undergraduate and graduate level students who are interested in the Agency's mission and a career in affordable housing.  Interns will perform a variety of assignments designed to enhance their professional and technical development.  They will gain valuable on the job training and exposure to a small fast-paced work environment. 

All internships are paid.  Undergraduate Interns are paid $15.00/hour and Graduates are paid $17.00/hour.

 

Interns enrolled during the fall and spring semesters typically work an average of 20 hours per week, but may work additional hours up to 32 hours during the semester. Internships may be consecutive, continuing from semester to semester.

 

The summer internship program is a comprehensive 10-12 week program running from May to August. Interns typically work 20 - 40 hours per week.   

LEGAL INTERNSHIP:

 

The Agency's Office of the General Counsel is responsible for overseeing all of the Agency's legal matters.   The legal intern will have an opportunity to work on a wide range of matters; including working with our Multifamily and Single Family Programs, compliance, contracts, FOIA requests and other ad hoc projects.  This internship is only available to current law students.

ESSENTIAL DUITES & RESPONSIBILITES

  • Record and monitor Retention Policy and Compliance
  • Review Agency's Privacy Policy and compliance
  • Create an online replica of the Agency's Multifamily Loan Transaction pipeline board
  • Assist with Single Family Programs; to include assisting in the approval of HomeSaver and Down Payment Assistance Programs releases
  • Assist with responding to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests
  • Perform legal research, redact documents, and review records in response to FOIA requests
  • Assist in reviewing contracts and Request for Proposals (RFPs) for the Agency's Procurement Office
  • Provide legal research as needed
  • Potential to work on other legal projects as they arise

KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled at an accredited law school in his/her second year
  • Be a second year law school student
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to learn process and work knowledge quickly
  • Ability to work independently and to see projects through completion.
