INTERNSHIP PROGRAM SUMMARY:

The DC Housing Finance Agency's Internship Program is designed to attract undergraduate and graduate level students who are interested in the Agency's mission and a career in affordable housing.  Interns will perform a variety of assignments designed to enhance their professional and technical development.  They will gain valuable on the job training and exposure to a small fast-paced work environment. 

All internships are paid.  Undergraduate Interns are paid $15.00/hour and Graduates are paid $17.00/hour.

Interns enrolled during the fall and spring semesters typically work an average of 20 hours per week, but may work additional hours up to 32 hours during the semester. Internships may be consecutive, continuing from semester to semester.

The summer internship program is a comprehensive 10-12 week program running from May to August. Interns typically work 20 - 40 hours per week.    

 

FINANCE INTERNSHIP:

The Accounting Intern will help support the Finance team and will have the opportunity to learn and gain hands-on experience.  The intern will assist the accounting staff in meeting routine and ad-hoc deadlines and assist in additional projects.  This internship will benefit someone who is interested in accounting, finance, business management, or economics.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUITES & RESPONSIBILITES

  • Assist with accounting journal entries, allocations and accounts payables
  • Scan and covert files into electronic documents (E-Docs)
  • Enter E-Docs into the Financial Management Software, Emphasys, and ensure documentation is provided for all entries
  • Perform Project Accounting by providing journal entry support for the Agency's Multifamily Program
  • Print monthly trustee statements, code transactions, enter data into accounting system, and export and printing completed journal entries for Multifamily Program
  • Perform accounting research as needed
  • Perform other administrative duties

KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled at an accredited college or university seeking an undergraduate and/or graduate degree
  • Preferred majors include: Accounting, Finance, Business Management or another similar major 
  • Have at least a 2.75 grade point average
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with Advanced Excel Skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to learn process and work knowledge quickly
  • Ability to anticipate and adapt to workflow demand
